Implementation of Portfolio Management at Brabant-Noord Safety Region

In the Brabant-North Safety Region 11 municipalities, the fire brigade, the medical assistance organisation (GHOR), the police, the control room and the public prosecutor's office work together in the field of fire services, crisis management, medical assistance in accidents, disasters and disaster relief.

The situation at the client

In recent years, the client has already made great strides in the field of project management by forming its own project office and by training all project staff on the IPMA. The organisation needed a push to reach the next level in project management knowledge and skills. The project office was convinced that a big improvement could be made in the field of insight and overview of all initiatives and projects.

The project had a total duration of 9 months, and the team leaders and employees of the project office were intensively involved.

The organisation needed a push to reach the next level in project management knowledge and expertise. The project office was convinced that a big improvement could be made in the area of insight and overview of all initiatives and projects.

The solution from MOJEO

MOJEO has Eric Menger as Project Management Office expert at Safety Region Brabant-Noord to help the organisation.

Eric Menger explains how he got started with the organisation: "We took a systematic approach in cooperation with the members of the project office by first 'pulling up the net' and taking stock of what was already there. By holding interviews with all the key stakeholders in the early stages, it quickly became clear to Eric which approach was most suitable.

Together with the project office, Eric set up processes, established communication flows, and cleaned up templates and the intranet. Where possible, use was made of existing applications. All this was done to get a good basis for the new portfolio process. In addition, it was important to further train the clients in their role within the new project management frameworks. All in all, in order to set up the portfolio process better and provide management with more insight and overview.

The added MOJO

Thanks to the portfolio process, the Safety Region Brabant-Noord now has a good overview and insight into current and future projects. Prior to a new project, the question is first asked as to whether or not it will add value to the organisation.

The client, Bob Heijl, is very satisfied with the final result. We are very satisfied. The portfolio process has been fully set up and implemented. The first results are visible, showing that we can now make better decisions. The visibility of the project office within the organisation has also improved''.

Eric brought clarity to the organisation by mapping out which processes exist and which needed to be improved. Eric brought a lot of structure and clarity to the existing resources. It is very LEAN. In addition, he has blended in seamlessly with the team; every team member is very sorry that his assignment has come to an end.''

Together with the team, we succeeded in strengthening the cooperation between the various departments (columns) so that the knowledge of specialists now actually ends up in the project," Eric says.
